On December 26th, Bob & Pat Ilten will celebrate 73 years of marriage!
What’s their secret?
It wasn’t always an easy road, but focusing on the blessings of: their love for one another, patience, complementary skills, love of their children, joy in treating each other as equals, and their health has led them to happily walk through life together, regardless of the challenges! For Bob and Pat the “secret” is their faith. They put Christ at the center of their marriage, and were consistently involved in church activities.
What do they love most about each other?
Pat: Bob always makes me feel special!
Bob: Pat is a patient and forgiving woman. She always picked up the slack when I was gone weekly for work. (They had 4 children and Bob traveled during the week and was only home on weekends.)
The example of a healthy marriage passed down to our children can have a profound effect and ward off divorce in future generations…
Bob & Pat’s daughter, Joanie, had this to say about the example her parents set:
“My parents were great examples of what Christ wants us to be: patient, forgiving and putting others before yourself. Even in hard times, they always managed to work things out, stress-free.”
